Man guilty of raping 2-year-old girl
NEWTON – Judge Nathaniel J. Poovey sentenced a man to 50 to 70 years in prison, after a jury found the man guilty of sexual offenses with a child, during Catawba County Superior Court on Friday, according to a press release from the District Attorney’s Office.
The jury found Zachary Allen Blankenship, 32, of Sherrills Ford, guilty of one felony count of rape of a child by an adult offender, three felony counts of sexual offense with a child by an adult offender and four felony counts of indecent liberties with a child. Attorney Scott Matthews represented Blankenship.
In addition to prison time, Blankenship will be put on the sex offender registry and be under satellite surveillance for the rest of his life.
According to the release, the child was a 2-year-old girl. The rapes and other offenses occurred in November 2013.
